Program Description:

• For students who plan to complete or are completing coursework necessary to begin a career in teaching in specified high need fields
• Must be repaid as a Direct Unsubsidized loan if student does not teach at least 4 years within 8 years of completing program as a teacher in a school that serves students from low income families, in a specified subject area (science, math, foreign language, bilingual education, special education or other high need area)

• Not in default 
• Satisfactory progress

Amount of Award:

• Up to $4,000 per year for first undergraduate - $16,000 aggregate
• Up to $4,000 per year for graduate students - $8,000 aggregate
• Prorated amounts for less than full-time enrollment. 
• Requires Agreement to serve/Promise to Pay to include promissory note 
• Award combined with other assistance cannot exceed cost of attendance

Who is Eligible?

• Have a FAFSA on file by Feb. 1 (priority deadline)
• Have any FAFSA corrections made by July 31
• Be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident and a Missouri resident
• Be enrolled full-time
• Have an EFC of $12,000 or less
• Not have received your first bachelor's degree, completed the required hours for a bachelor's degree, or completed 150 semester credit hours

Amount of Award:

• Statutory maximum of $2,850 and minimum of $1,500
• Award may vary depending on state funding each year

The Bright Flight is awarded to students earning an ACT or SAT composite score in the top 5% of all test taking Missouri residents.

Program Description:

• Based on academic criteria

Who is Eligible?

• Be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident and a Missouri resident
• Have a composite score on the ACT or SAT in the top 5 percent of all Missouri residents taking those tests
• Enroll as a first-time student and receive the scholarship in the academic year immediately following high school graduation
• Be enrolled full-time 

Amount of Award:

• Statutory maximum award of $3,000 for earning a score in the top 3 percent
• Statutory maximum award of $1,000 for earning a score in the 4^th and 5^th percentiles
• Award may vary depending on state funding each year 

How to Apply:

• There is no Bright Flight application to complete. The Missouri Department of Higher Education will receive your ACT or SAT composite score(s), along with approved Missouri college or university choices, from your ACT or SAT assessment records. It takes approximately six to eight weeks after each national test date for the MDHE to receive assessment information. For more information, visit Bright Flight Program.

  • Family Income less than or equal to $65,000 or
  • Be Pell Grant Eligible
• Missouri Resident:
  • ACT 18-36 and 2.50+ high school GPA or
  • 2.75+ high school GPA with less than 18 ACT or no ACT test score
• Non-Missouri residents must be eligible for Bearcat Advantage

Amount of Award:

• Varies 
• Will fill the gap between the cost of tuition and standard fees minus all federal, state, and institutional funds
• Awards subject to available funding
• Summer funding is not available

Renewable for four years with the following stipulations:

• Reapplication of FAFSA by Feb. 1 for consideration of state grants used in determining Northwest Promise funding
  
  • Family Income less than or equal to $65,000 or
  • Be Pell Grant Eligible
• Completion of 24 Northwest credit hours
• 2.00 Northwest cumulative GPA for Missouri residents
• 3.00 Northwest cumulative GPA for non-Missouri residents
• A combination of federal, state, and institutional grants and scholarships plus the Northwest Promise covers regular tuition and standard fees
